This is Domo-Kun’s world, we’re just living in it

I’ve always been interested in Domo-Kun, the square-shaped, wide-mouthed brown mascot of NHK, Japan Broadcasting Network.

Here in the USA, it took me a while to figure out what he was supposed to be. I’d seen the cute little guy for years, and always just didn’t bother reading up on him to find out how, exactly, he was created.

This article over at Nikkei.com sheds a lot of insight into the inception of Domo and how the brand was altered greatly to appeal to US audiences. For example, Domo was altered from brown to a variety of colors to appeal to different audiences outside Japan, especially the USA.

Check out the article if you want to learn more about Domo, as I did.

    Cool article.

For what it’s worth, your post links still don’t work in RSS readers. Anyone using one will have to click through to your web site and then click on the link in the post to get to it.
