Hello Everyone!
On May 22nd, there’s a special event coming to the Echoplex in Echo Park that we’re really excited about. Rhythm & Soul for Relief: Concert for Japan, Haiti & the World, is a showcase of Hip Hop, Funk, Reggae, and dub to benefit Japan, Haiti, and other disaster-stricken areas. As the people of Japan work hard to recover from the Great Tohoku Earthquake, Haiti and other places are still dealing with the repurcussions of their own natural disasters. This benefit seeks to provide aid to Japan, while also providing assistance to other parts of the world where the needs are as immediate as ever. Pre-sale tickets are available at a discounted price.
Proceeds will benefit OperationUSA, whose policy is that 96% of funds raised go directly toward support and materials for those in need. OperationUSA has provided support to relief and recover projects in Haiti, and will be focusing on communities in Japan that may have been over looked by the government or larger agencies. It’s going to be a night of great music, all to help the people of Japan and other parts of the world to recover from the unprecedented disasters we’ve seen in recent years.

There’s a great resource for finding out about all the benefit events and activities going on to benefit Japan. Check out the Help Japan Fundraiser Events Wiki, organized by our colleague Naomi Rubin. You’ll find a calendar with links to upcoming benefit events and shows.
Tune in Tokyo returning to 2nd Street Jazz next Wednesday for our rockabilly, indie, and anime rock showcase, “SAKURA BOMB 2″, featuring Inazuma, The Americans, Midnight Shinigami, Po Lo, and DJ Tommy Pedrini! Look forward to seeing everyone there!
