The summer kicks off on May 29th at the Avalon in Hollywood with Tokyo Collaboration, presented by United Students and Weekly LALALA. DJ Tibby and DJ ELLI-ROSE headline this club event, also featuring Atomic Mike, LA’s DJ Sherry Cat, and more awesome DJs spinning all night! JapanLA’s Fifth Anniversary Party is being held on Saturday, June 4th at the shop on Melrose in Los Angeles. Hosted by Bubble Punch, the party theme is “Kittens & Ice Cream”, featuring cat-related art, clothing, jewelry with over 40 artists and designers. Part of the proceeds from art sales will benefit Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue & Support. There will also be a Grilled Cheese Truck, the Lake Street Creamery Truck, Sapporo Beer, and an appearance by Hello Kitty!
The Southern California Lolita fashion community is having a summer picnic at Clark Park, featuring a swap meet, potluck, raffles, and more! Sponsors include Gothic & Lolita Wigs and KawaiiGoods.
Anime Expo is coming up July 4th weekend, with convention headliner Hatsune Miku, performing in the U.S. for the first time at LA’s Nokia Theater. If you’ve seen footage of Hatsune Miku “performing” in Japan last year, you know how amazing this is going to be. Kalifina, known for their closing theme “Magia” from “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, will also be appearing at the convention, with a special performance at Club Nokia.
