“Orient Metal” Set To Take Over The World

Today, I would like to show everyone two PVs that came out… well, today, and are super awesome. Nothing more to it than that :)

For those unfamiliar with ChthoniC, well, they aren’t Japanese. They’re the best known metal band from Taiwan, and, possibly, all of Asia. They write their lyrics in classical Mandarin, Taiwanese, Japanese and English; and they utilize the errhu (a traditional Chinese string instrument that sounds a little bit like a violin). They’ve gained a lot of respect over the years and toured extensively.  They’ve been around since 1995.

Today, their latest PV for the song Broken Jade was released.  You can read more about it on Terrorizer Magazine’s blog, here.

It’s a pretty awesome as far as PVs go. ChthoniC put a lot of thought into their music, and the artwork of the music video is amazing. The music is beautiful.

The second PV comes to us from Dir en grey. For those of us who are unfamiliar with the band, check out my first post about them from about a year ago here. Dir en grey have similarly received much respect for their music. However, I feel that Deg are not quite as mature a band as ChthoniC are, after listening to both side by side.  Everything released between the albums Vulgar and Uroboros sounds disjointed, as if they’d taken their visual influences and the western sound they aspired to, and dumped them all together without bothering to connect them properly.Uroboros had marked a new stage of maturity for the band, and the new single Different Sense even more so.  It remains to be seen if Dir en grey’s Dum Spiro Spero will be their best yet.

However, the interview they recently did with Artistdirect.com gives me hope that the new album will prove that these once upon a time visual kei boys have grown into their potential on a global level.  You can read it here~

Beware, the PV for Different Sense is rather… graphic, containing some tentacle porn, and other such lovely things. It’s well put together, but not safe for everyone~! <Although, they haven’t forgotten the little blurry boxes, so you’re probably going to be okay>
