Mito Komon, one of the longest running Japanese TV jidaigeki or period drama is finally coming to an end with this season. It is the 43rd. It’s been on TV since 1969.
It is the story of Mitsukuni Tokugawa, the retired daimyo of the Mito domain who roams around Japan with two samurai followers dressed like a commoner, and they kick bad people’s butts. The antagonists are usually local officers or gangsters who abuse their power, and each episode typically ends with Tokugawa showing off his inro which reveals that he is from Tokugawa clan making people kneel in front of him.
I literally grew up with this TV show. I just found out about this and I think I’m gonna cry tonight…
