This weekend’s Comic-Con extravaganza in San Diego has only just begun, and already the Internet is being flooded with news and updates.
One such update concerns Afro Samurai, the manga series created by Takashi Okazaki, which had an English-language adaptation. Samuel L. Jackson voiced the main cahracter in the anime, and the music was created by Wu-Tang Clan member The RZA. The English-language dub aired on Spike TV in and around 2007.
Well, the update from San Diego is that there are apparently plans to bring Afro Samurai to the big screen, live-action style.
As the Hollywood Reporter details, The Indomina Group, a U.S. and Dominican Republic-based producer and distributor of film, TV and trans-media content, is teaming with Jackson and Gonzo Studios, the company behind the Emmy-winning anime, to produce what would be a live-action adaptation.
Like its title suggest, Afro Samurai blends hip-hop and soul with Japanese elements. Set in a future and feudal Japan, the story follows a man seeking revenge for his father’s decapitation at the hands of Justice, a power-seeking man dressed as a cowboy.
