Japanese visual artist Yayoi Kusama (whom we’ve spoken about before) has a fiercely unique style – she loves dots.
Her current exhibit in Brisbane, Australia’s Gallery of Modern Art, The Obliteration Room, puts some of her most noteworthy art on display.
As the exhibit’s site details, “When she was a small girl she started seeing the world through a screen of tiny dots. They covered everything she saw – the walls, ceilings and even her own body. For 40 years she has made paintings, sculptures and photographs using dots to cover surfaces and fill rooms. Kusama calls this process ‘obliteration,’ which means the complete destruction of every trace of something.”
In designing the exhibit, Kusama created a huge, solidly white environment and asked children to decorate the space with colorful dot stickers. This resulted in the pieces in The Obliteration Room, and they’re really something to see for yourself: visit PSFK to see a slideshow of images from the show.
