About a couple weeks ago, OBLIVION DUST released their 6th studio album called 9 Gates For Bipolar and it is AMAZING to say the least.
I don’t often keep up with this band so I barely discovered their commercial for this new album like last week and just from the previews alone made me want to hunt down this album and listen to it.
Now I won’t go through every single track, but I will go over two that are worth mentioning!
The first song from this album and the commercial is called Gateway which drew me into listening this album and its entirety because it’s so catchy and the auto-tune worked really well in this song. As the title of the album states, there are 9 gates so Gateway represents an opening to the 9 songs you’re about to listen to. Pretty neat!
OBLIVION DUST has a song in this album called Sail Away which features Anna Tsuchiya (土屋 アンナ) whom formed a duo punk-rock band called Spin Aqua with guitarist, K.A.Z, back in mid-2002 so it’s awesome to hear them working together again.
Track after track, I just feel like stopping everything I’m doing and just bang my head for the duration of the CD. I believe this is a good album especially for people who are unfamiliar with OBLIVION DUST. I personally have been getting into them ever since VAMPS was formed and I was curious about K.A.Z’s past works. Needless to say, I found a lot of gems but this album instantly became my favorite!
What makes OBLIVION DUST stand out in the J-Rock scene is the fact that their vocalist, Ken, is British/Japanese so most of their songs are written and sung in fluent English. I wonder how well they would do in America if they were to debut here. Hmm…
Anyway, OBLIVION DUST is currently on their STATIC SOUND TOUR 2012 and will conclude on 5/20 at Akasaka BLITZ in Tokyo.
You can purchase 9 Gates For Bipolar from these online stores.
OBLIVION DUST are Ken (vocals), K.A.Z (guitar), Rikiji (bass).
