The national version of ABC News posted a short preview of this weekend’s highly anticipated Anime Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
It doesn’t go into tremendous depth about many of the weekend’s events and festivities, but it’s a good read for anyone curious how anime/manga conventions such as the Anime Expo are presented to people otherwise unfamiliar with the genres.
There are references to Dragonball Z, Cowboy Bebop and Sailor Moon, as well as quotes from some individuals who go to the Expo each year, about what and why they cosplay, as well as other topics. Lulu Brinkley of St. Lous, Missouri explains her decision to dress up in full-on character regalia:
“It just came down to a point where after I’d taken him to four or five conventions he finally said, ‘You know what? I’m going to cosplay now just so I don’t look like the only odd guy with just an anime T-shirt,'” she said.
The article mentions the hotly-anticipated US concert debut of Hatsune Miku, the computer-generated 3D popstar who sells out stadium concerts in Japan. She is set to “perform” on Saturday night, July 2nd, but of course tickets are sold out for this event. If you’re going to the Expo and don’t have a ticket, good luck finding your way into the show, as it’s sure to be one of the weekend’s most popular events.
