UPDATE: More information on the Miku Phone
More news has come out on the Miku phone we reported on last month. The phone (Sony Xperia ft. HATSUNE MIKU is being put on display by NTT DoCoMo (Japanese cellphone provider). The phone has gone on display in six DoCoMo locations in Japan including Sapporo, Tokyo, Kyoto, Umeda, Kobe, and Fukuoka and three Sony Store locations in Ginza, Nagoya, and Osaka.
Like we’ve said before, this edition of the phone is extremely limited with only 39,000 units that will be put into circulation this September. Pre-orders for the phone start at the end of this month. Sadly, for Miku fans outside of Japan, you’ll probably have to sell an arm and a foot to be able to purchase this phone from a Japanese auction site as there has no news on whether the phone will be released anywhere other than Japan.
As of the posting of this article, there has been no news regarding the price of the phone. Also, no one has been able to get a hands-on experience as the phone has only been on display (behind a case) in the stores mentioned above. As always, we’ll update you guys with any new information that comes out about the phone.
Those of you interested in the specifications of the phone can check here at the DoCoMo website.
If you can’t view the site, here’s a breakdown of the features:
- 4.6 inch screen (720 x 1280 pixel resolution)
- Running Android 4.2 (Jellybean)
- 1.5 GHz Quad Core processor (Snapdragon)
- 2,300mAh battery
- Is NFC enabled
- Outer camera is a 13.1 megapixel camera
- Inner camera is 0.31 megapixel
- Said to be waterproof and dustproof
An official commercial was even released for the product.
From the video, it seems like the phone has a custom user interface compared to a typical Xperia which just adds more “Miku” to your phone. Which isn’t a bad thing. Miku Phone coming to a DoCoMo store or Sony Store near you (if you live in Japan).
