Golden Bomber, An “Air” Rock Band

I’ve begun to realize that Japan is a country where any type of dream, that may initially sound really dumb, can come true. I mean, what if a friend told you that he/she wanted to start an “air” band, made up of an air guitarist, air bassist, and air drummer? You’d probably stop your friend and recommend that he/she learn how to play and find others who know how to play instruments too. Now you can just advise your friend to head over to Japan to realize his/her dream!

Golden Bomber was formed in 2004 by Kiryuin and Kyan. While none of the members actually play their instruments during their live shows, Kiryuin is the musical brains behind Golden Bomber – he writes the music and lyrics and records it with studio musicians. So what do they do during their live shows? Check out the video below!

As you can see by the sheer number of people in that crowd (they say there are 20,000 in the video), this visual kei “air” rock band is very successful. They even collaborated with everyone’s favorite Hello Kitty! Who would’ve thought, right? They parody a lot of Japanese culture, which actually led to their collaboration with Capcom on a game called Rhythm Hero: Oto-Ranger. From 10/9-10/22, there will be two Golden Bomber songs,  Konnichiwa Kodoku and America, available as an in-app purchase.

I just can’t get over how weird it is to see the them with instruments and not actually play them. I’ll leave you guys with another Golden Bomber video. Enjoy!
