Japan plans for Robot Olympics in 2020

Yes, you read that right, robot Olympics. The Japanese Prime Minister recently expressed interest in hosting a large scale organized robot competition. The Prime Minster “…would like to gather all of the world’s robots and aim to hold an Olympics where they compete in technical skills.”

This whole thing is a lot tamer than what I had originally envisioned a robot Olympics would be; not the robotic equivalent of our human Olympics but it’s still rather cool nonetheless. Considering how large scale this is, it would be in the best interest of large companies to build robots for this robot Olympics and eventually (or never) we might even see a Coca-Cola robot and Pepsi Co. robot duke it out in a match of robo-boxing to determine the king of dark sodas.

But enough hopeful imagining, we’ll just have to wait until the 2020 robot Olympics nears for more information on what these robots will actually be doing.

Pretty sure that is cheating.
