November 7, 2016. The rock duo VAMPS returned to Los Angeles once again, this time performing at the El Rey Theatre.

After a great opening performance by the Detroit band Citizen Zero, VAMPS appeared on the stage. HYDE initially appeared with his jacket hood on, but took it off during REDRUM, showing off his new blonde hairstyle to the audience. It was also the first time for LA fans to listen to K.A.Z’s new guitar, which showed off his higher notes even more than usual. From the new song “SIN IN JUSTICE” to the band classic “VAMPIRE DEPRESSION,” VAMPS continued to energize the audience more and more.

Throughout the years, VAMPS has performed various covers, including “Life on Mars?” by David Bowie and “Live Wire” by Mötley Crüe. This time, they took an unexpected turn and covered a more recent pop hit: “Diamonds” by Rihanna. The band did an amazing job at recreating the song and transforming it into a rock number.

“How are you guys doing? Are you having fun? We’ve been looking forward to this tour, and now here we are,” greeted HYDE. “Thanks Citizen Zero and thank you so much everyone!” The band proceeded to perform their new song “RISE OR DIE”. The purple stage lights definitely enhanced their “vampire” theme.

Fans began to clap as the intro for “WORLD’S END” began. K.A.Z and Ju-ken walked to the center of the stage, surrounding HYDE as the song progressed. During “BLOODSUCKERS,” the band and audience showed a perfect connection through call-and-response.

“MIDNIGHT CELEBRATION” followed, with Arimatsu and JIN completely synchronized, creating a sharp rhythm.

During the three-song encore, both HYDE and K.A.Z interacted with the fans. HYDE reached his hand out several times to the fans, and K.A.Z took a sip from one of the fan’s drinks. The audience sang along during all three songs, especially “DEVIL SIDE”. The 17-song set ended as HYDE shouted “Thank you so much!” to the fans.

We’ve heard that VAMPS may be returning for another tour next spring. If this is true, we certainly can’t wait!
