World famous Cup Noodle’s Nissin’s new development “OTOHIKO”!

World famous Cup Noodle’s Nissin developed the fork “OTOHIKO” equipment that can camouflage noodle sipping sound!

Did you know that “Noodle Harassment” is an international issue?
People say that the slurping noise Japanese people make when they eat noodles makes people from abroad uncomfortable.
Nissin, the manufacturers of Cup Noodles, challenged the resolution of this international problem. Finally they succeeded in developing the fork “OTOHIKO” equipped with a mechanism to camouflage noodle sipping sound, inspired by TOTO “The Sound Princess” also known as “OTOHIME”

“OTOHIKO” The Fork resolving “Noodle Harassment”

The moment that the high powered directional mic equipped on the fork detects the sound of slurping, it transmits that signal to a dedicated app installed on a smartphone, using short wave radio communication. Sound is then emitted from the smartphone to camouflage the noodle slurping noise.

Nissin collected a huge amount of noodle sipping noise and extracted the “characteristic points of noodle sipping sound” by data mining of the sample sound. By doing so, Nissin succeeded in developing “camouflage sound” to eliminate unpleasant sounds.

The promotional video was created by a Japanese sound artist, Shinya Kiyokawa who is the genius known for weaving tunes from the sound of nature.
