A number of anime fans rushed to the Microsoft Theater from Los Angeles Convention Center to attend Anisong World Matsuri at Anime Expo 2017 ~Japan Super Live~ on Day 1 of Anime Expo, on July 1st, 2017. Six amazing anisong artists, ALI PROJECT, angela, GARNiDELiA, Konomi Suzuki, Mashiro Ayano, and Minori Chihara joined forces to deliver the hottest anisong concert here in Los Angeles.

Anisong World Matsuri started off with a special collaboration by angela and Konomi Suzuki performing a classic anisong, Zankoku na Tenshi no These (A Cruel Angel’s Thesis), the OP song of “Neon Genesis Evangelion.” It was a perfect song to get the crowd pumped for this night!

Konomi Suzuki continued with a solo performance including recent popular anime theme songs such as This game (from “No Game No Life”), Blow out (from “Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor”), and Redo (from “Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-“). She totally rocked the crowds with her strong vocals and charming smile.

Although her debut was not too long ago, it was already her second time to join Anime Expo, and her fans seemed very excited to see her back in Los Angeles!

After Mashiro’s show, GARNiDELiA came on the stage with ambiguous which was a popular anime, “Kill La Kill”’s 2nd OP song, and they hyped up the stage! During the high-energy selection of their anisong hits, Grilletto (from “The Irregular at Magic High School”), SPEED STAR (from “The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie”), and Yakusoku -Promise code- (from “Qualidea Code”), the dancers showed up, and the vocalist MARiA danced together with them. The next artist, Minori Chihara came to the stage to begin the second half of the concert! She’s not only a popular anisong singer, but also a very popular voice actress! Several fans were screaming her nickname “Minorin,” and it was echoing in the theater. She performed some of her amazing anisong collection, Paradise Lost (from “Ga-rei -Zero-“), TERMINATED (from “Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere”) and Beyond the Boundary (from “Beyond the Boundary”) with her strong yet very unique singing voice. She proved that she is an anisong queen to the audience.

Then Minori brought Arika from ALI PROJECT back to the stage to perform Celestial Diva (from “CHAOS RINGS II”) together. The unexpected pair’s voices surprisingly worked very well, and the audience enjoyed their beautiful harmony.

After Arika left, Minori talked about her last Anime Expo experience back in 2007. 10 years ago, she was invited to Anime Expo along with the members of SOS Brigade from the smash hit anime, “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,” and had a mini concert. With this intro talk, everyone already knew that Minori would perform a song from this series, and they were very delighted that they were right. Yes, Minori sang and danced Hare Hare Yukai! The audience also started dancing to this classic anime dance tune, and it was a great sight to see. As she performed her final song, Freedom Dreamer, the hall was vibrating with energy.

The last performer of the night was a veteran anisong duo, angela! Needless to say, atsuko and KATSU’s performance was very energetic and charismatic, and they sure knew how to hype up the crowd. They taught the fans how and when to dance, jump and make a wave so that they could create a show with their fans all together. Angela performed some of their hottest anime songs like Boku wa Boku de Atte (from “Ajin: Demi-Human”), Asu he no brilliant road (from “Stellvia”), Sidonia (from “KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA”), KINGS (from “K”), and Shangri-La(from “Fafner in the Azure”). Their MC was also one of the highlights of the night. Both atsuko and KATSU were VERY HILARIOUS. It might be a coincidence, but angela screamed “Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi!” during the MC, and that made us very happy to hear! 😀 Despite the language barrier, they knew exactly how to win American fans’ hearts. I’m very confident to say that every person who was at Anisong World Matsuri on that night fell in love with their performance and personalities. It was such a perfect way to end the concert.
