Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is known for the eccentricity of her works.

Some of her paintings and genre-defying pieces are currently on display in an exhibit at the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain. The exhibit will run from May 11 to September 12.

As this biographical article from Art Daily details, Kusama’s art is valuable for its minimalism and eccentricity.

The article suggests that Kusama’s art does not fit within usual frameworks of interpretation and appreciation, instead carving their own niche in an already crowded artistic landscape.

Kusama blurs the lines that divide art and sculpture, sometimes combining the two in her pieces, part of what makes her so interesting as an artist. She’s really doing her own thing, and these sorts of innovations will be on display at the Museo Reina Sofia.
