As previously discussed on this blog, the movie version of the hugely popular Astro Boy manga will be hitting US theaters on October 23. Apparently there will also be an Astro Boy video game coming out that same week in conjunction with the film’s premiere.
Set to drop on October 20, the game will be a 2-D game that somewhat resembles the Mega-Man games of the 1980s. The guy in the video below says that they put in lots of little things in the game so as to make it pretty hard to get 100% completion. That sounds cool, since there’s little worse than a game that can be finished in a couple hours. In the video, he says the game will take roughly 6-8 hours to beat on a player’s first try so it sounds pretty detailed.

Looks pretty neat. Typically, video games of this sort are not especially great in quality; they tend to be more of a cash-grab tie-in for parents to buy for their kids (such as the games for the films The Golden Compass, The Hulk, and Iron Man of a year or so ago). Hopefully the Astro Boy game will break that mold.
The concept of Astro Boy seems pretty fun and exciting, so with any luck the developers behind the game did their homework and crafted a game that will please all Astro Boy fans, whether they’re new fans or have loved the manga for years.
The game will be released on Wii, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS, and PSP.
