There are some exciting events coming to Los Angeles this summer for fans of Japanese music and pop culture. Convention season is here, and we have some exciting announcements about upcoming Tune in Tokyo events, and I”ll share the details on an amazing event coming to the Hollywood Bowl next weekend.
On Saturday June 25th, join Tune in Tokyo at Q-Pop for “The Ham Ba Ga Show”! This is the opening reception for the Little Tokyo-based shop & gallery”s hamburger-themed exhibit! There will be a group art who featuring over 30 artists including Junko Mizuno, Kevin Dart, Nagi Koyama, and more! The Pie “n Burger Truck will be there with tasty treats, and Tune in Tokyo will be spinning delicious grooves. The event runs from 7 PM – 11 PM. Q-Pop is located at 128 Astronaut E S Onizuka St, Los Angeles CA 90012.
BIG IN JAPAN is Sunday, June 26th! The concert features Japanese electro-pop pioneers Yellow Magic Orchestra, rare U.S. appearances by Buffalo Daughter and DJ Towa Tei (Deee-Lite), and Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori reunite Indie legend Cibo Matto for this special night, which also features a just-announced special appearance by Yoko Ono, plus traditional kabuki-style dance, taiko drumming and experimental contemporary visuals for an unforgettable evening celebrating Japan. Tickets are available now. Don”t miss this amazing showcase of the best in both influential and revolutionary Japanese rock! Tune in Tokyo is going to have a cool Big In Japan promotion that I”ll be announcing in the next day through Facebook, twitter, and tumblr, so stay tuned!
Tune in Tokyo brings its global pop sound to the Club Nokia VIP Lounge as part of Anime Expo 2011, presenting a night of J-Pop, K-Pop, Japanese Electro and Indie, and International Club Beats on Saturday, July 2nd. They will be joined by AX Idol Winner and J-Pop singer Stephanie Yanez featuring Po Lo, and LA-based hard rock band Dig Jelly, in a special acoustic performance. There will also be a Vocaloid-inspired fashion show sponsored by Q-Pop, featuring Japanese labels Sexpot Revenge, Algonquins, Super Lovers, and the Putamayo x Vocaloid Collaboration.
The event runs on July 2nd from 9 PM – 2 AM, and is welcome to all ages. The Club Nokia VIP lounge is located on the second floor, accessed by the elevators on the left side of the entrance. A convention badge is required for entry into Club Nokia. We”ll just be getting started as the Hatsune Miku concert at Nokia Theater ends, so feel free to join us afterward, if you”re going to be checking out the show.
