The Primals makes their return to the stage with the Dark Decades tour. On September 30th, a crowd of over 10,000 Warriors of Light descended into the dungeon of the legendary Nippon Budokan stage in Tokyo, Japan. The crowds waving their light sticks eagarly waiting show their support!
What do you mean this band plays music from critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV?
The Primals is the official rock band formed in 2014 by XIV sound director Masayoshi Soken as a guitarest and vocalist, along with localization director Michael-Christopher Koji on vocals, Guitarist GUNN, Bassist Eikichi Iawai, Drummer Tatsuya Tachibana. The group primarily covers music from the game. Most recently, they were also behind the main theme for the latest expansion of the game, Dawntrail.
Before long, the concert kicked off with Hic Svnt Leones from Endwalker. The screen lit up with video footage of the boss Hesperos and the crowd raised up their lights in excitement.
Shortly after the opening song, Soken greeted and welcomed the audience for a night of incredible music and marveling at the band’s first appearance at the prodigious venue. The crowd responded in kind with roaring applause.
For the next two hours, the band performed a flurry of tracks from XIV in a dazzling display of lights and sound. Accompanied by a large LED display that prompted audience calls, the arena lit up with a fervor unmatched.
About halfway in through the concert, a surprise guest manifested in the form of Jason Charles Miller, the vocalist of some of XIV’s most memorable vocal tracks including the main theme of Shadowbringers. You could feel the atmosphere morph from the loud cheers and roars as he took the stage before kicking it into high gear with proud rendition of Unleashed.
As the night continued, the band continued to rock the socks off the entire crowd. Guest violinist Yuma Ito joined the band in performing Dedicated to Moonlight. The fan-favorite Rise from the Alexander raid also makes a reappearance here including the whole time stop freeze bit in the arena. The energy inside the hall never withered all even after the initial set was over and the crowd screamed for an encore, to which the band happily obliged.
