If you are a big fan of GHIBLI WORLD and HAYAO MIYAZAKI, there is a place you can’t miss when you go to Japan. —- GHIBLI MUSEUM, MITAKA. Personally, I appreciated the art of Studio Ghibli before I understood the storylines. I mean, I grew up watching such classics as My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the sky and Princess of Mononoke.. How wouldn’t you fall in love with fluffy totoro? or sky Island with a magical-futuristic robot.
The museum is located in Tokyo, the nearest station is Mitaka JR which is about 20 minutes away from Shinjyuku station. Then, walk along the Tamagawa Josui “Waterworks” to the museum for 15 more minutes. Access info is found here. (official website)
Buying tickets for Ghibli museum is a little tricky. You can’t just show up and expect to buy the tickets at the museum. In japan, There’s a convenience store called “Lawsons” ( it’s everywhere so dont worry finding one! pretty easy!) you must buy tickets through Lawsons. The ticket is for a specific day with entrance at a specific time of that day. Yes. Kinda strict but it’ll be worth it. I highly recommend buying tickets through JTB travel Agency if you’re non-Japanese, especially tickets are limited and will be sold out regularly.
Note 1 : No pictures inside of the Museum.
Note 2 : There’s official Ghibli store located inside. Tons of limited edition goodies.
Note 3 : The Museum is very rustic and homely. Awesome. Period.
Note 4 : They never failed to amaze me every time i go there. pretty impressive.
That’s all the tips i have for you!
