In more recent Hayao Miyazaki news, he and Hideaki Anno (writer and director of Neon Genesis Evangelion) visited the disaster stricken area of Miyagi Prefecture for an autograph session and a special private showing of Ghibli’s new film, Kokurikozaka Kara before it becomes available in theaters through Peace Winds Japan. PWJ is an NGO that aids people struggling with poverty, turmoil, and disasters all over the world. In April, they brought in caravans into the affected areas and showed another Ghibli film, Totoro, for the children.

The film’s tagline is “Let’s walk looking up,” which gives a sense of positivity and hope that seemed to speak to the people in the area.
