Apparently Dreamworks Pictures is planning on producing a big-budget, flashy action/3D version of the classic anime Ghost in the Shell. They’ve signed on Laeta Kalogridis to write the script for the movie. Kalogridis is responsible for the script for the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio/Martin Scorsese film Shutter Island.
Of course, the Hollywood studios tried adapting Ghost in the Shell into a movie before, but to no avail. I wonder if Kalogridis will write an acceptable-enough draft that pleases the studio bosses, or if this will just be another road block to a Ghost in the Shell move being created at all.
Not that that’s a bad thing, of course. People always complain about Hollywood’s attempts at making big flashy movies out of old Japanese anime/manga/video games, so this will probably be no exception.
Thanks to Screen Rant for this story.
What do you think, is this a worthwhile attempt? Does the world really need a big budget Ghost in the Shell Hollywood blockbuster film version?
