New York’s music scene is anticipating the debut of “J-Rock Blasts Off: 1-2-3!!” This special live concert, held at NYC’s famed Sullivan Hall, shall bring together influential Japanese indie acts currently touring in the USA as well as a brilliant Japanese-American guitarist.

Solo singer Mariko Morimoto moved to the East Coast from Japan when she was five. She began a formidable career as a singer-songwriter in Boston before moving to New York City, and as an accomplished guitarist she can be seen on her youtube channel, ilovemarikosmusic. Recently she has shared the stage with notable artists such as Lifehouse, Pitbull and the Gin Blossoms. Her performances are described as a vivid combination of aggressive and upbeat songs. She is known throughout the New York scene as an edgy and soulful songstress that should not be missed. Mariko’s latest release “ON WITH THE SHOW” is available on iTunes. Fixed to rocket off with stage acrobatics is garage punk group Mugen Hoso from Tokyo. This power duo consisting of Hiro Igaki (guitar) and Taro Honda (drums) gathers rock influences from both the Japanese and English rock scene such as KODOMO (子供バンド ), Pete Townsend (the Who) and Angus Young (AC/CD). Mugen Hoso is currently on their 4th U.S. tour and fans have labeled this performance team not to be missed. Their latest LP “LIVE OR DIE,” was released on January 15, 2013. Launching their way onto our line-up is the trio, The Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass. Known for their unique style, expressive vocals, and bluesy tones, this girl group is truly a triple threat. This band began their music career during their high school years as an all-female Beatles & Green Day cover band. They are sure to impress as they have recently were part of the Japanese roster for 2012’s SXSW showcase and headliners for San Francisco’s J-POP SUMMIT, the summer of 2012. Currently their LP “THE RUMPS SMOLDER AT THE GLOOM” is available at http://akabane-vulgars.com/

The final countdown is set to start with an additional 4th act, The Asterplace, straight off their German tour. The Asterplace, an all male, NYC based band has broken down the categories of musical style to create a genre that is totally unique. Using their Japanese musical roots, they have coined the term Tokyo Melodic Core. This is a blending of influences from punk, hardcore, anime themes and J-rock. Their act has been described as a marvelous experience of creative rock and livid tunes. As favorites of New York’s music scene at venues like the Webster Hall and Arlene’s Grocery, they have a reputation of a band not to be missed. The Asterplace has become such beloved musical guests that they have played the National Cherry Blossom festival in Washington DC since 2011. Most recently they have headlined at the Cosday festival in Frankfurt Germany. They have also headlined across the globe headlining for New York’s Great Japan Block Fair 2011, Manga Next 2012, and Brooklyn Botanical gardens Sakura Matsuri Festival of 2013 as well as Zenkaikon (PA), Toracon (NY), Animaine (Mi) and Anime Next (NJ) and many many more.
