A live-action film adaptation of the popular anime series “Fullmetal Alchemist” has recently been announced by Warner Brothers. Filming for the movie is scheduled to begin in Italy at the beginning of June. The team will then return to Japan in mid-August for the second part of shooting. The “Fullmetal Alchemist” movie is set to premiere in Japan during 2017 winter.

I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country,” Sori Fumihiko, the movie’s director, said when describing his vision for the film.

The following stars have been cast in the film:

Yamada Ryosuke as Edward Elric
Honda Tsubasa as Winry Rockbell
Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang
Kohinata Fumiyo as General Hakuro
Sato Ryuta as Maes Hughes
Renbutsu Misako as Riza Hawkeye
Natsuna as Maria Ross
Harada Natsuki as Gracia Hughes
Oizumi Yo as Shou Tucker
Kunimura Jun as Doctor Marco
Matsuyuki Yasuko as Lust
Hongou Kanata as Envy
Uchiyama Shinji as Gluttony
Ishimaru Kenjiro as Father Cornello

Although a detailed story line of the movie has not been revealed yet, fans are able to make guesses based on the characters involved in the film plot. The film’s director has promised that audience will be happy with what he has planned.

Fullmetal Alchemist” was first serialized as a manga series in “Monthly Shonen Gangan” in July of 2001. The series was adapted into an anime series by the same name in 2003, and once again in 2009 as “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood“. The upcoming film will mark the first live action adaptation ever of the series.
