This next one is actually going to be directed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro Miyazaki, who also directed Tales from Earthsea. The original story comes from a manga by the same name created by Chizuru Takahashi and Tetsuo Sayama. Set in 1963 Yokohama, it is the tale of a 16 year old girl, Umi, who raises a signal flag that meant “praying for a safe cruise” every morning. 17 year old Shun, who commutes by tugboat, always saw that flag from the ocean. The next year, the Summer Olympics in Tokyo were held, and everyone began thinking that there was only value in new things. Everything old was being demolished. At one high school in Yokohama, there begins a dispute about whether to tear down culture club building, named Quartier Latin that was filled with history and memories. And this where Umi and Shun meet. Umi cleans up the building as she wants people to understand its greatness, and Shun fights to save the building. They fall in love, but find out there is a possibility that they’re siblings, so they look into the story of their parents. Umi and Shun will be played by Masami Nagasawa and Junichi Okada from V6. In theaters 7/16 in Japan.
