This year, Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi was given the exciting opportunity to cover the second annual Crunchyroll Expo at the San Jose McEnry Convention Center! With 45,000 guests attending over the three-day weekend, Crunchyroll Expo saw an increase of 10,000+ guests since last year. Crunchyroll is primarily known for their popular anime streaming service and has only recently launched their own anime convention.

Entering the convention center, guests were welcomed by a DJ blasting some fun tunes for everyone to enjoy and set up the fun atmosphere! Inside the convention center, fans could buy merchandise in the Exhibit Hall, explore the wonderful art Artist Alley had to offer, and get autographs from their favorite voice actors.

From panels to exciting guest appearances and exclusive looks, Crunchyroll Expo had something to offer every attendee until the very last minute on day three! Most excitingly, fans got the chance to experience an exclusive first look at the upcoming Alita: Battle Angel movie with the star of the film–Rosa Salazar who plays Alita, the director–Robert Rodriguez, who has directed favorites including Spy Kids, and producer Jon Landau–who has produced box office hits for James Cameron such as Titanic and the Avatar series.

What’s an anime convention without the cosplayers? We had the chance to see many cosplayers wearing colorful, intricate outfits that called attention to fans of the characters they were cosplaying as. Cosplaying is an essential part of any anime convention and at Crunchyroll Expo we had the opportunity to meet dedicated individuals who put in so much time and effort to bring their favorite characters to life.

Crunchyroll Expo 2018 was a great was to spend our extended labour day weekend and we surely cannot wait for what they have in store for next year! Make sure to stay tuned for EXCLUSIVE interviews with legendary voice actor, Ryo Horikawa–who you may know for voicing iconic characters like Vegeta from the Dragon Ball series, Stephanie Sheh–known for voicing the widely loved Sailor Moon, and so many more amazing guests. Thank you so much for keeping up with us on social media during the convention; We hope to see you there next year!
