Ren Meguro of Snow Man was announced to join cast for Shogun Season 2.

Meguro won the role of Kazutada, a new character from season 2, through an audition. On the fan club site, he commented, “I want to do my best so that Snow Man’s name becomes known even a little more around the world.”

James Clavell’s novel Shogun, which depicts Japan’s Sengoku era, was adapted into a drama series by FX, a Disney owned network. A production team includes Justin Marks, known for developing the story for Top Gun: Maverick, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

As soon as the series was released last year, it became a social phenomenon. At the 76th Emmy Awards, it won a record breaking 18 categories, the most in Emmy history. It also won four awards at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards and swept major awards across the United States.

Ren Meguro is a pop star in a Japanese 9 member boyband, Snow Man. It was also announced that he will focus fully on filming Shogun and he won’t be active as Snow Man for a while after their five dome tour, which runs until January next year. Season 2 of Shogun is scheduled to start filming in Vancouver, Canada next January. The group will continue activities as eight members.
