They may not have written any of your favorite anime songs, but The Suzan is a fun all-female Japanese pop-rock band currently living in New York City. The band was started in Tokyo by sisters, Rei (keyboard/vocals) and Saori (guitar/vocals), in 2004 and soon after, their friends Nico (drums) and Ikue (bass) joined to make The Suzan a four-piece band.

What’s amazing is that they were able to attract the attention of Björn Yttling, from Peter Bjorn and John, through a Myspace message. He subsequently produced their 2010 album, Golden Week For the Poco Poco Beat, which lead to their record deal with Fool’s Gold Records.

If any of you are in the LA area, they’re playing on December 3rd at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, and the following day, they’ll be at Ham & Eggs Tavern in Downtown.  If not, you can catch them in New York!
