I’m sure many of you have heard of or been to a maid café where the waitresses are dressed as maids and serve you as their masters. But these aren’t the only theme restaurants in Japan; there’s a whole variety of them.
I recently read about the Alice in Wonderland themed one in Shinjuku, Tokyo. As you could imagine, it’s a pretty trippy place. There are chandeliers made out of hearts and playing cards, funky chairs, art that uses the original illustrations from the book, and more. The corporation that designed all this, called Fantastic Design Works Co., has been a part of many other themed places like Vampire Cafe and Club Yume (Dream).
As far as the food goes, it’s mainly yoshoku (Western-influenced cuisine). They have pizza shaped like a tail of a cheshire cat, pastas, and hors d’oeuvres. It’s very much like the maid cafes in that everything is served by waitresses dressed as Alice (most likely so that guys and boyfriends have some incentive to go).
So if you’re an Alice in Wonderland (or maid cafe) nut, list this place as one of your must-visits!
