Tune in Tokyo with the Return of Keshiki!

Tune in Tokyo has become a regular hang out for the J-music fans in LA.
Usually a dance/hip-hop DJ event, every once in awhile they have special hold special events with performing guests.

August 19th was one of those events.

The night started off with Nightmare For Robots and while the style seems like it could be interesting… it was really hard to tell since they had multiple problems with the in-house system. In fact, most shows that I have seen at this venue had problems, but none quite so bad as this band.

They tried starting 4 times that I remember, but I only really heard one full song. By the time that song started I had headed outside to chitchat with other people whose ears couldn’t take it…

Really though, I was in and out all night, even for the performances that were better. Why? Because as far as most people are concerned, this event is the best excuse to get together with friends and hang out.

After Nightmares For Robots, was Stephanie Yanez. The only thing I really know about her was that she won the Anime Idol singing competition that is part of Anime Expo. After that convention, she started showing up in a lot of places, and now performs her own songs, instead of singing anime theme songs covers.

She also had some problems with the sound system, but was a lot better at connecting with the crowd, and getting them pumped up despite the problems. And of course no matter what, for all good artists the show must go on. Stephanie performed a number of songs, and the night really got started with her show.

Following Stephanie was the band . They’ve had a decent amount of experience with the in-house system at 2nd Street Jazz, so their performance easily topped the first two. The are a great mix of rock, punk, and J-pop, so they have the ability to get the attention of fans from a wide variety of genres.

Their music was fun and energetic, and you could tell that they were liked, not by how many people crowded the stage… but by how many people came back inside from their conversations with friends outside.

But to really top off the night, and what a high number of people were waiting for….

was Keshiki.

Keshiki has a bit of history with the LA crowd. Even though all the members are from Japan, they actually formed and kicked off their career as a band right here.

The best part about their performing at 2nd Street Jazz? Like LDK, they’ve been there before. Knowing how to set-up, and how the sound works, made their performance one of the best.

Keshiki’s music has a smooth sound with a great beat, and their excitement at performing on their home grounds came through their music. The energy in the crowd was amazing, despite the fact that it was getting later into the night.

Even after their performance, the band stuck around to hang out with old friends and fans, and to just have a good time winding down the night in a great location in Little Tokyo.
