October 5, 2015. VAMPS held a headliner show at the Roxy Theatre on Sunset Blvd. With no pit between the stage and the audience, the concert became one filled with even more energy than usual.
The set began with “WORLD’S END.” The audience shouted loudly as the bright stage lights shined on the members. It had been nearly two years since their last headliner show in Los Angeles. The fans showed great excitement to see the band once again.
“LIPS” and a cover of Mötley Crüe’s “LIVE WIRE” continued. With such a powerful performance, it was almost impossible to believe that they just ended a tour in Latin America. During the following “REPLAY,” HYDE crouched down at the edge of the stage, narrowing the distance between himself and the fans.
The 5th song was “GET AWAY.” Being in a smaller, indoor venue, Arimatsu (drums)’s drums seemed to be enhanced more than usual, giving a different image to the song. When HYDE counted down “3, 2, 1,” the fans also did the same, raising their fingers.
Following were darker numbers “DAMNED” and “EVIL.” K.A.Z (guitar)’s pokerface emphasized the mysterious feelings to these songs.
A purple spotlight hit JIN (keyboards) as the beautiful melody of the keyboards surrounded the venue. The sweet notes eventually led to the intro of “VAMPIRE’S LOVE.”
After finishing the song, HYDE spoke to the fans. “I’m so excited to see you again! Are you excited too? How bad do you want us? Let’s enjoy together!”
Following the wondrous “ZERO” was, by contrast, an energetic number “ANGEL TRIP.” Arimatsu would hit his drums so loudly that the nearby microphones would shake. Ju-ken (bass) smiled towards the fans and threw a pick into the audience.
At the beginning of their first single “LOVE ADDICT,” K.A.Z clapped his hands along the beat to stir the crowd. The colorful lights seemed to express the enthusiasm of the audience.
“BLOODSUCKERS” and “MIDNIGHT CELEBRATION” continued, and after the two hard rock numbers, the members left the stage.
After a brief moment of fans shouting “Bang on! Stomp everybody!” the members took the stage once again. The encore began with “REVOLUTION II.” Is it because the stage was so close to the audience? There seemed to be a great sense of unity between the members and the fans.
Before continuing to the next song, HYDE threw kisses to the fans as he said, “Thanks for being here tonight. Let’s meet again!”
JIN and Ju-ken began to play a heartwarming duet. It was the intro of “SWEET DREAMS.” It had been nearly two years since local fans last heard the song. The fans quietly listened to the ballad, thinking back to memories of past U.S. tours.
The 90-minute show ended with the intense “DEVIL SIDE” and “SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL.” I already cannot wait for this band to come to Los Angeles once again.
