Have you ever wondered what anime/cosplay scene would be like in other countries?! I had an opportunity to be invited to Colombia’s anime convention, Tokyo Impact last November I had to say that it was one of the most amazing experience that I have ever had!! Tokyo Impact is an anime convention held a few times a year in the capital of Colombia, Bogota. Tokyo Impact 2015 was held on November 15th and 16th.

The lineup for Tokyo Impact 2015 was myself and a Japanese anison (=anime song) singer, Yoko Ishida. She is most well-known for her debut song, “Otome No Policy” which was an ending song for Sailor Moon R in 2000. She is still an active anison singer and her recent work includes Shirobako OP, FAIRY TAIL ED, Strike Witches OP, Shakugan No Shana ED, The Testament of Sister New Devil OP and so on.

My cosplay of Tokyo Impact 2015 Day 1 was Jolyne Kujo from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

I had a photoshoot, cosplay contest as a judge, Cure Cosplay Collection and autograph session.

With Colombia’s local cosplayers who walked on Cure Cosplay Collection!

I had to admit that cosplay scene in Colombia or South America was pretty mysterious to me and I expected to see some major differences between cosplay in Colombia and in Japan or America. However contrary to my expectations, everyone’s cosplay quality was really high and I could see their love and passion through their art. I saw a lot of amazing detailed work and I did see some cosplay from recent anime titles as well.

Autograph session was taken place with Yoko Ishida!

Found my face!

On Day 2, I was Himari Takakura from Mawaru Penguindrum and had a mini concert, meetup and photoshoot!

I sang 2 songs: Sorairo Days from Gurren Lagann and Crossing Field from Sword Art Online!

Yoko Ishida’s concert was so much fun, filled with lots of classic anime songs from the 90s!

After the concert!

It was nice to see the anime/cosplay scene in Colombia! I thought I would see big differences compared to the scene in Japan or America but it was only a minor difference. I saw a lot of Adventure Time goods or League of Legends cosplay while on the other hand, when I asked staff and audience what the most popular anime is at this time, it was “Tokyo Ghoul” or classic titles such as “Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X)” or “Dragon Ball Z.”

Colombia itself was such a beautiful country filled with a lot of friendly people. Before I went to Colombia, many of my friends told me to be careful due to the news that they have been hearing on TV. However, since the moment that I landed at Bogota Airport, I fell in love with this country immediately.

I would like to appreciate Tokyo Impact crew for inviting me to your beautiful country and amazing convention! I would love to go back to Colombia even just for sightseeing again.

Gracias!
