Year of Luigi to end March 18th

It’s been a year since Nintendo announced that they would give recognition to the forgotten Mario brother so what better way than to dedicate a whole YEAR to him and then to extend it after it was scheduled to finish. In terms of Luigi games that came out last year, the only notable one was Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for the 3DS and New Super Luigi U for the Wii U and that felt like bonus levels of New Super Mario U wrapped in a Luigi skin.

There was some fun promotional material that Nintendo created such as the Finding Luigi “mockumentary” where Luigi is portrayed as a real-life parkour enthusiast.

It was a nice thing for Nintendo to for Luigi and all the younger siblings that have been playing second player in Mario games growing up. Hopefully the extension was caused by some delays in an upcoming Luigi game or something like a Luigi’s Mansion HD remake instead of some arbitrary reason.

Quick summary of the Year of Luigi:

  • Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
  • New Super Luigi U (Wii U)
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (3DS)
  • Luigi Bros. mini game in Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)
  • Dr. Luigi (Wii U)
  • Super Luigi Bros in an NES compilation (Wii U)
  • A Luigi-themed 3DS XL (3DS)
  • A slew of other things dealing with Luigi merchandise and Club Nintendo (PC)
