A First Look at the World’s First Permanent Domo Cafe in Buena Park, OC!

Domo is officially back, and this time, he’s here to stay. The world’s first permanent Domo Cafe has opened in Buena Park, Orange County, bringing a full dose of kawaii energy and comfort food!

For those unfamiliar with Domo, he is the iconic brown mascot character created by Japan’s NHK in 1998. With his signature square mouth, fuzzy brown body, and lovable personality, Domo became a global fan favorite through television shorts, merchandise, collectibles, and his popularity across the internet in the 2000s.

Domo Cafe is bright, playful, and fully themed around Domo’s iconic charm. Domo illustrations are featured throughout the space, along with a dedicated photo booth and merch section.

The menu continues that same energy. I tried Domo Moco, which leaned more toward a rich, comforting beef stew-style dish. The sauce was deeply flavorful, and the beef patty was incredibly juicy. It felt hearty and satisfying in a way that surprised me.

Another highlight was Domo Lunch Box, which came with a golden, crispy burger that looked just as good as it tasted.

Alongside it, Korean Fried Chicken Chunks and Creamy Mushroom Pasta caught my attention as items I would definitely return for next time.

They also have adorable desserts! Domo Dream Cup, a flan-based dessert available in strawberry or cookies and cream, was light, refreshing, and layered with fresh strawberries. It’s sweet but not heavy, making it easy to finish. Beard Papa Domo-Yaki also stood out as both cute and fun, with ham & cheese and chocolate options available.

On the drinks side, the cafe offers 9 different options, including Mango Lemonade, Domo’s House Coffee, and Cinnamon Roll Matcha, giving plenty of variety depending on your mood.

What made the visit even more memorable was a surprise appearance from Domo himself! It was the most exciting moment of the day. He took photos with guests and even played around with the photo booth and merch area. He was so kawaii!

Overall, this is not just a themed cafe. It feels like a full experience built around warmth, nostalgia, and a bit of chaos in the best way possible. Since Y2K trend has been on lately, the king of the internet meme from that era is a huge comeback.
