The Irregular at Magic High School is a legendary school-magic anime series centered around an irregular older brother, Tatsuya Shiba, and his stellar, honor-student younger sister, Miyuki Shiba. In addition to this news, the long-awaited film, The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE –Yotsuba Succession Arc–, is now playing in Japanese theaters to rave reviews! The film is creating an incredible buzz across the fandom.
The Irregular at Magic High School (published by Dengeki Bunko) is a wildly popular “school magic” series by Tsutomu Sato. Set in an era where magic has been established as a tangible technology and the training of magicians has become a national policy, the story chronicles the exploits of two siblings attending the institution commonly known as “Magic High School”: Tatsuya, an “irregular” older brother harboring a certain defect as a magician, and Miyuki, an honor student younger sister who is as brilliant and talented as she is beautiful.
Since the release of the first volume of the original novels in July 2011, the series has enjoyed overwhelming popularity. As of 2026, the cumulative worldwide circulation of the series has surpassed 30 million copies.
The TV anime adaptation premiered in 2014, and in addition to the main series, which now spans three seasons (totaling 52 episodes), the feature film The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE -The Girl Who Summons the Stars- was released in 2017. In 2021, the Reminiscence Arc was broadcast as a special anime feature. Furthermore, the franchise has undergone extensive multimedia expansion, including video games, manga adaptations, and various other projects.
In 2024, the production of the theatrical film The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE -Yotsuba Succession Arc- was announced.

SYNOPSIS (MOVIE)
It is the year 2096.
Almost a century has passed since magic was established as actual technology.
A pair of siblings were about to enter the winter season of their second year in high school.
Tatsuya, the older brother, bears a fatal flaw in his magic abilities.
Meanwhile, the beautiful, intelligent, and perfect younger sister, Miyuki, has unmatched magical talent.
An irregular and a star student. Despite their differences, the pair of siblings lived together in harmony.
That is, until they receive a certain letter…
The letter contained an invitation to the New Year’s Banquet, to be hosted at the Yotsuba Clan’s head manor. The Head of the Yotsuba Clan, Maya Yotsuba, and the heads of each branch family will be in attendance…
There, the next Head of the Yotsuba Clan will be announced.
Miyuki dreaded the prospect of being designated as the next Head of the Clan. For if she were to assume that mantle, she would no longer be permitted to remain single and would be required to marry. And that, in turn, would mean having to let go of the days she spent by Tatsuya’s side.
However, Miyuki becoming the Head of the Clan would allow her to transform the status of Tatsuya, who, as a Guardian, has long been treated with disdain. Hoping to provide Tatsuya’s freedom, Miyuki makes a momentous decision while en route to the Yotsuba manor.
“Brother… I will become the Head of the Yotsuba Clan.”
What fate awaits the “Supreme Siblings”?
And what shocking truth lies hidden between them?
