During Anime Expo 2015, Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi conducted an interview with the voice actress Kurosawa Tomoyo. Through the interview, we took a glimpse into her tastes in music, as well as what she does on her days off, and of course, what she thinks is “cute, cool, and amazing.”

Kurosawa voice acts Omae Kumiko, a leading role of the popular anime “Sound! Euphonium,” which is now streaming on Crunchyroll. She also voices Inubozaki Itsuki of “Yuki Yuna is a Hero;” a BD+DVD+CD Collector’s Edition #3 will be released on August 10 on RightStuf.

── Nice to meet you. Thank you for your time today.

Kurosawa Nice to meet you, too.

── You voice an 11-year-old girl Akagi Miria in the anime “THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS.” What were you like when you were of that age?

Kurosawa When I was 11 years old, I was performing plays on stages, so I was traveling around the country to perform with my company.

── During that time, you played the role of young Misaki Yoko in the drama “Attention Please.” What is the biggest difference between acting and voice acting?

Kurosawa It is hard to replicate the breathing without moving for scenes where the character is showing movement. I once again studied muscle movements and so forth, which I think is the biggest difference.

── I see. I’ve heard that you like bands. Which specific bands do you enjoy listening to?

Kurosawa I love Japanese bands such as ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, and also KANA-BOON, a band that is currently trending. For overseas artists, I often listen to Slipknot; I enjoy a variety of bands.

── Do you sing such artists’ songs at karaoke as well?

Kurosawa Actually, when I go to karaoke, I often sing Japanese female artists’ songs. I usually go to karaoke with my friends, so I sing numbers by artists like Nishino Kana and miwa. I try to go along with what’s trending because I am a college student after all. (laughs)

── I see. (laughs) I’m sure you are busy with school and work at the moment, but what do you do on your days off?

Kurosawa On my days off, if someone invites me, I go barbequing or hiking. In the summertime, I often go to music festivals as well.

── At Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi, we aim to spread the cute, cool, and amazing aspects of Japanese culture. What do you think fits such aspects?

Kurosawa Let’s see… My friend is currently challenging herself in this field as well also, but I think Japan’s Maiko culture matches the “cute, cool, and amazing” aspects. Maiko have a very cute appearance, but whether it is for dance practices or for talking in a friendly manner with people they meet for the first time, a variety of techniques are needed. I see my friend training to become a Maiko, and find the occupation to be a very cool and admirable one.

──  Lastly, may I ask for a message to overseas fans?

Kurosawa I have been able to truly feel in my skin that Japan’s anime culture is being treasured overseas as well in recent years. I am very thankful to have been a part of this year’s Anime Expo. Thank you so much!

── Thank you!

Kurosawa Thank you!
