Mrs. GREEN APPLE released their new song “lulu.” today. Originally announced as the first track of Phase 3, a new chapter in the band’s career that began on New Year’s Day, the song has now been revealed as the opening theme for season 2 of the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, which begins airing on January 16.
Along with this announcement, the following comment from Motoki Ohmori (Vo/Gt) was released:
I’ve loved the series since the original manga, so it’s an honor to be involved.
“lulu.” is a song about life, treasured things, memories, and will being passed from one person to another, flowing steadily into today and on to tomorrow. It also conveys the strength to move forward while carrying one’s hometown in one’s heart.
As a fan of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, I’m already very much looking forward to what this season will depict. I hope you’ll enjoy “lulu.” alongside the series.
The latest promotional video for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, released alongside the announcement, features the first preview of “lulu.”
A music video for “lulu.” was also surprise-released on Mrs. GREEN APPLE’s official YouTube channel. Ahead of this release, a YouTube livestream began at 10:00 p.m. on January 11 after only the stream URL was posted on social media, without prior explanation. The livestream ran for approximately two hours before transitioning directly into the premiere of the “lulu.” music video, with peak concurrent viewership exceeding 200,000.
Unlike Phase 2, when music videos were typically announced in advance, the release of “lulu.” took place without prior notice, marking an unpredictable start to Phase 3 for Mrs. GREEN APPLE.
