The kawaii idol sensation CUTIE STREET have released a single for the newest Pokémon Horizons ending titled “Kyuuto na Kyuutai” or “CUTIE SPHERE” on May 27th. Known for their viral hit “Kawaii Dakejya Damedesuka?” CUTIE STREET is an idol group that debuted as ASOBISYSTEM’s KAWAII LAB idol project in summer of 2024. Together these idols’ concept is “KAWAII MAKERS” and their goal is to “transmit their own brand of ‘KAWAII’ from Harajuku to the world”.

As of June 3rd, “CUTIE SPHERE” ranks number one as the most popular anime song, beating out songs by titans like Kenshi Yonezu and Mrs. GREEN APPLE. The popularity of the song likely stems from how upbeat and catchy the melody is. It is a fitting addition to CUTIE STREET’s discography as its cuteness is already transmitting their brand of KAWAII to the world.

The title of the song refers to a Pokeball, the “cute sphere” in which Pokémon are caught, and includes katakana to spell the first half of sphere, kyuutai, the same way “cu” in CUTIE STREET is spelled. There are many other references to the Pokemon franchise within the lyrics about going on adventures, evolution, button mashing, sparks of electricity, becoming best friends, and the repeated line “pick up” sounds just like Pikachu’s iconic “Pika!”. In the official ending theme you can even hear Pikachu singing along during this part. The song ends with cheering to a “pika pika” future, or a sparkling future. Here’s to a Pika Pika future to both CUTIE STREET as they release their album and Pokemon Horizons as they continue into a new season!

CUTIE SPHERE is included on CUTIE STREET’s third double A-side single CD. The CD also includes the song “Very Nice” which was created for a new ice cream brand by popular Japanese sweets and dairy brand Meiji. There are also different editions available for purchase: Limited First Edition, CUTIE Edition, STREET Edition, Anipoke x Kyusuto Edition, and Standard Edition. Both CUTIE and STREET Editions respectively include the groups first subunit songs titled “I Amai Me Mind” and “Crush on You”. These two subunits have been split into two different categories that coincide with the concept of “CUTIE” and “STREET”.
