The music world is in mourning as Atsushi Sakurai, lead vocalist of the legendary rock band BUCK-TICK, passed away at 57 due to a brainstem hemorrhage on October 19, 2023.

Mr. Sakurai, during the first day of the fan club-exclusive live performance “BUCK-TICK FISH TANKer’s ONLY 2023” held at KT Zepp Yokohama in Kanagawa, had to interrupt the show since he got sick. He was urgently taken to the hospital in an ambulance, but he passed away on the same day.

A private family funeral has been held, and a public memorial for fans will be scheduled later. Mr. Sakurai and BUCK-TICK made their mark in the music scene, and their hit single “Just One More Kiss” launched their career in 1987. Their music left an indelible mark on the anime world, featured in series like “Trinity Blood,” “xxxHolic,” and “Shiki.”

Mr. Sakurai’s unique voice and BUCK-TICK’s style made them influential, not only in Japan but also globally. The music community and fans worldwide mourn the loss of this rock icon.
