Sword Art Online is Coming to Hollywood!

Although it did not achieve the same breakout success to the western audience as did “Dragon Ball” and “Ghost in the Shell,” Sword Art Online has proven to be a massive hit for fans of video games, animation, and sci-fi story-telling!

America’s Skydance Television recently acquired the global live-action rights to Sword Art Online and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Skydance is in the process of developing a “Sword Art Online” TV series, with a pilot being written by Laeta Kalogridis.  Just how much will this adaptation adhere to its original source of material?  CEO and Founder of Skydance, David Ellison describes, “Sword Art Online, sounds content to leave well-enough largely alone…to build out a deeply immersive new universe of SAO in an authentic way that honors the well-established fan base.”

The series has yet to have a cast and a network but Skydance is definitely pushing for this reality and even made hints to developing a “virtual reality experience” within the series!
