Walküre’s FINAL LIVE TOUR 2023 Last Mission, the largest arena tour in Macross history, kicked off on May 20, 2023, at the Tokyo Ariake Arena and spanned six performances across Tokyo, Osaka, and Chiba. In response to the passionate support that has yet to fade, a live album titled “W encore” will be released on June 5 to commemorate the one-year anniversary of this emotionally charged final tour.
The Macross franchise’s first-ever six-performance arena tour, which marked the last solo performance by Walküre, captivated around 74,000 attendees. Additionally, the “Walküre FINAL LIVE TOUR 2023 – Last Mission” LIVE Blu-ray & DVD, released at the end of last year in three editions, received overwhelming support and garnered significant attention.
“W encore” will be released in two formats: a Limited First Edition and a Standard Edition. Both editions will include a 3-disc CD set containing all 43 songs performed during the tour, primarily focusing on the final performance at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall on day 6, but also including performances from Ariake and Osaka, totaling approximately 200 minutes. Particularly noteworthy are the three songs exclusively performed at the Osaka show: “NEO STREAM,” “Ai Oboete Imasu ka,” and “Welcome to Walkure World!,” which were not included in previous video releases.
The Blu-ray included with the Limited First Edition features footage from the “Macross F and Δ Combination Kyoto Minamiza Kabuki no Banquet – Mini Live & Kabuki Collaboration Talk” held on January 13 and 14, 2024, featuring MikumoΔJUNNA and FreyjaΔSuzuki Minori on January 13 and Sheryl Nome starring May’n on January 14. While the evening sessions of both days have already been streamed, the footage included in this release is a newly edited re-edited version, featuring footage of all 16 songs including four bonus tracks from the afternoon sessions that haven’t been streamed. The stage setup at Kyoto’s Minamiza, known as Japan’s oldest kabuki theater, featuring a special arrangement with acoustic instrumentation and incorporating traditional Japanese elements, is a must-see aspect of this performance.
The jacket features an original illustration drawn by Chisato Mita (CAPCOM), the character designer for Macross Δ. More details will be revealed at a later date, so please stay tuned.
