The game’s producers seem to think that it will. Joystiq reported about an interview between the European Playstation Blog and Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama. In the interview, the development team said that FFXIII would “fix” the Japanese gaming industry.

“Some people have been saying that the Japanese game industry is dead, and all that… I dunno,” the creative lead said. “I will say that Final Fantasy XIII is one really epic title for high definition consoles. With this game, we are going to resurrect the whole thing.” And then they immediately moved from boastful to confusing: “As for Western games that have influenced us – FPSs mostly. The Call of Duty series, for example.”

The interview is very in-depth and long, so those of you who are interested in the Final Fantasy series and are looking forward to FFXIII should take a look.

We’ve written here a few times about the recent struggles of the Japanese gaming industry, and how insiders expect it to right itself so as to rehabilitate the once-dominant industry to where it once was, on top of the global video game market.

It’s telling that FFXIII’s development team thinks so highly of the game, as it could definitely provide that jolt to the industry that it so dearly needs.
