Once again, the Japanese market gets cool gadgets before the USA does. As this article from Slashgear reports, Sony Japan has announced a digital television addition to the Playstation 3 that is set to be released in Japan in March. As the article mentions,

The Sony Torne will drop in March 2010, and offer Japanese buyers a way to watch digital terrestrial TV broadcasts on their PS3, together with PVR functionality that allows for recording content (either to the PS3’s HDD or a connected USB 2.0 drive) even while the PS3 is being used for gaming, Blu-ray playback or just in standby mode…. Sony Torne for PS3 will arrive in Japan come March 2010, priced at 9,980 yen ($109).

I don’t own a PS3, but this is something I’m sure a lot of people would want…and for good reason. It can record content while you are playing games or surfing the Web as well, which makes this just about perfect for any avid gamer/TV fan who wants to play Final Fantasy while DVR’ing American Idol. This just isn’t fair. But it’s pretty cool for those in Japan who can and will take advantage of these capabilities.

I wonder if it will be released in the USA sometime soon…
